The increased discussion of Drupal engineering certifications concerns me. I question the motivations behind this movement, the efficacy of such certification programs to precisely identify talent within our developer community, and its potentially skewing effects on vendor selection in the the Drupal service provider industry.
This week I had the rare, but gut-wrenching experience of a lynchpin service provider flaking on a client project at a critical point on our development cycle. And in choosing a software provider, I think that it's something that you should ask about, because how a company handles this situation speaks volumes about their professionalism and integrity.
Last night I got back from a whirlwind trip to DC to meet with two of our current clients, as well as two new potential partners. From the time I hit the ground at National to the time I got back on the plane, I literally spent 34 hours in DC - and it was well worth it.
