Sean's Take on the New ThinkShout, Inc.

January 25, 2011 - 14:59 -- Sean

If you follow me on Twitter, it’s probably no surprise from all my excited tweets over the last year and a half that starting my own consultancy has brought me much joy, pride and personal growth. I’ve worked in the nonprofit sector my entire career. I’ve been a Drupal geek for the last 5 years. My academic studies have been in organizational development. The opportunity to combine these interests to build an effective team of technologists to solve problems for communities working to make the world a better place has been, at the risk of sounding cheesy, ridiculously awesome. I consider myself blessed that I can make a sustainable living, working in a great city, serving people who make a difference.

Lev's Take on the New ThinkShout, Inc.

thinkshout-logoWhen I started Level Online Strategy back in 2004, I never intended to remain on my own as long as I have. I assumed that I'd soon find a partner who shared my vision about how to run a consulting company and my passion for helping progressive organizations through our work. In large part because I was too busy running the business, I never found that person, until I met Sean Larkin back in the summer of 2009. He was just starting out on his own, dba ThinkShout. We realized early on that we had complimentary skills, similar approaches to business, and wanted to serve the same base of clients, in our case nonprofits and social ventures having a positive impact in their communities.

The brutal truth

This week I had the rare, but gut-wrenching experience of a lynchpin service provider flaking on a client project at a critical point on our development cycle. This isn't one of those typical experiences that development shops blog about - but it does happen from time to time. And in choosing a software provider, I think that it's something that you should ask about, because how a company handles this situation speaks volumes about their professionalism and integrity.
