Three Modules Released - 2010 Q1 in Review

As part of ThinkShout's participation in the Portland 10 Service Company Sprint, we've been talking a lot about our goals as a company for the next 12 months. We also decided to take some time this week for a couple of deep breaths, a few beers, and some reflection on all that we've accomplished in the first quarter of 2010.

Here are a few of the highlights:

3 Drupal Modules Released on Drupal.org

Community organization goals for the NTC

Tomorrow I'll be headed to Atlanta for this year's Nonprofit Technology Conference. I'm looking forward to connecting with other NPO tech nerds. If you're attending as well, connect with me on Twitter.

Evaluating Drupal vendors and project proposals

I often get asked to present on social media trends at nonprofit conferences - particularly in the river conservation community. These days, "tweating" is a household word, and many NPO technology decision-makers reach out to me to ask about the importance of integrating social media tools into the development of their websites.

ThinkShout heads to NTC

In two weeks, ThinkShout is headed to NTEN's Nonprofit Technology Conference. The NTC is the nation's premiere annual technology conference for nonprofit technology decision-makers, nonprofit social media experts, and nonprofit tech vendors. This year, as part of the fun, ThinkShout will be leading a 2D barcode scavenger hunt - with the grand prize of a free Apple iPad. Check back on our website on April 8th for more details.

April 7th Update:

20 hrs of travel for 34 hrs in DC - It was worth it.

Last night I got back from a whirlwind trip to DC to meet with two of our current clients, as well as two new potential partners. From the time I hit the ground at National to the time I got back on the plane, I literally spent 34 hours in DC - and it was well worth it.

ThinkShout has a new website!

They say that the "cobbler's kids never have shoes." Well, we went barefoot for quite a while. Now at least we have a decent pair of sandals. Eventually we'll have a nice pair of pumps and good hiking boots...but for the time being, this will do. There are just too many great organizations out there asking for our services right now for us to get too wrapped up in making ourselves look pretty.

It's conference season again

Well, it's that time of the year again, conference season! Things are busy here at ThinkShout, but there are just too many good opportunities for us to connect with other social entrepreneurs, technologists, and community activists to stay home. So, I've purchased my tickets and will see you at the following conferences:

TextMate and Drupal

This summer I joined the dark side...I moved away from using an Ubuntu laptop to a MacBook. More recently, I switched code editors from Komodo Edit to TextMate.

As a Drupal developer, I can't recommend TextMate enough. The Drupal PHP bundle for Textmate is great. Auto-completion of Drupal hooks saves me considerable time.

6 Drupal Modules to Improve Administration/Editorial Usability

Yesterday I built out a quick Drupal site for a fairly non-technical client. He manages a busy team and doesn't have the time for me to train his staff on the intricacies of Drupal content administration. The project also has a shoestring budget, so I wanted to keep things as simple as possible. Below are a few Drupal modules and tricks that I used to cut down on Drupal admin interface clutter, and more importantly, to make the site bombproof to unexperienced Drupal content editors.
