Mohonk Preserve

Protecting the Shawangunk Mountains by inspiring people to care for, enjoy, and explore the natural world.

Project Goals

Only an hour and a half drive from the Big Apple, the Mohonk Preserve is home to endangered peregrine falcons (the fastest animals on the planet) and one of the top rock climbing destinations in the world (the Gunks). The Preserve is truly gorgeous and a gem of the Hudson River Valley.

Consequently, when the Preserve came to us to redesign their website, we knew three things immediately:

  1. We wanted to focus the redesign on imagery of this beautiful landscape.
  2. We wanted to embrace responsive design so that all those New Yorkers headed upstate would have a good mobile experience of the site.
  3. We wanted to partner with our creative friends at Muscle + Bone for the graphic design.

Web Technologies

This project presented us with a number of opportunities to test out new techniques and tools in Drupal 7. While our team has long been fans of the Boxes module in Drupal, this was the first project in which we leveraged boxes plug-ins to create our own custom block creation forms and layouts. This project also presented us with our first opportunity to create a homepage slideshow marquee with the NivoSlider jQuery plug-in, which proved to quite a bit of fun to use.
