Save Our Gulf

Responding to the Gulf oil spill crisis

I know that we often say that such-and-such project is close to our hearts. That level of investment in our clients is just how we roll. But in this case, it's especially true. Save Our Gulf is a unique campaign of Waterkeeper Alliance and local Waterkeeper organizations on the Gulf of Mexico to tell the true story of the economic, environmental, and cultural impacts of the Gulf spill oil crisis.

The guts of this project center around a "field observations reporting tool" that provides local volunteers with a safe, effective way to get out into the field and report on the devastating impacts of the spill. Via this tool, volunteers can submit geo-located pollution reports, as well as upload photos and videos of the pollution. Interestingly, we are using Drupal's video upload module so that all uploaded videos are automatically sent to YouTube for processing and storage.

In addition to building this tool, the ThinkShout team has donated over a hundred hours of general IT support and social media consulting to the Alliance and local Waterkeepers in the region. These organizations have a long road ahead of them, but we are inspired by their efforts and will continue to support them however we can.
