Dedicated to the improvement of the overall health of the Willamette River, the Willamette River Initiative needed a web presence that played to the beauty of the area. Watch guards of the region, the organization works with local grantees for funding and publicizing their efforts in restoring the river and surrounding tributaries.
Critical features of the site include:
- Customized map using MapBox to display region projects
- Customized workflow for project page management by grantees
- Search using Apache Solr for easy access to the resource library
- Curated media gallery to highlight restoration initiatives
ThinkShout partnered with Annette Sabo on design to help bring their brand to life at WillametteInitiative.org, while we completed the theming and implementation in-house. Using MapBox, ThinkShout developed a beautifully designed custom mapping application so that Williamette River Initiative grantees and constituents can track their work by project strategy and location.
The media gallery provides a curated history of their projects and the progress being made at improving the ecosystem in the region. ThinkShout used SOLR for easily searching and accessing the rich resource library.
For workflow, site maintainers needed to balance access for area grantees and maintain editorial oversight of the content. We implemented a workflow that allows site maintainers to assign River Stories to Grantees to minimize their administrative efforts in cultivating a web presence while still providing them with the tools to maintain their project pages and promote their efforts online.
